The Slaughters - Gloucestershire

My first introduction to Upper Slaughter was when a vehicle manufacturer chose the Lords of the Manor as the venue and overnight stay for a car launch. The treatment we received was exceptional and when we had a full day to follow just driving around the Cotswolds, I knew I had one of the best jobs in the world.

The A429 runs from Warwick all through the Cotswolds but until that day I had rarely strayed off it. When I saw Upper Slaughter in daylight I thought I was in chocolate box world. Everywhere I looked the houses were beautiful, warming and quite bucolic.

It was a step back a couple of centuries. You didn't expect to see motor vehicles everywhere. Horses and carts would have been more in keeping.

Next we had a big family occasion and the Cotswolds had been chosen because it was halfway between everybody. The weather couldn't have been better and when we found that Lower Slaughter is just as picturesque, the weekend was complete.

I never tire of visiting these villages. Next time we'll take the video camera.
